The Bird of Puerta del Sol opens its doors around the theme of El Greco

Nuevo Imparcial.- The president of the Community of Madrid, Ignacio Gonzalez, opened the traditional «Birth of the Sun» one of the main attractions for this Christmas ,celebrating a decade with the Association of Belen de Madrid and is installed in the courtyard of the Royal Post Office. At this time, both locals and tourists will have a wide range of activities with theatre, concerts, exhibitions, guided tours and workshops which will reach up to 50 municipalities and in which, once again, children will be the protagonists. This year honours a representation of ‘El Greco and the city of Toledo’, to mark the fourth anniversary of the death of the Cretan painter.

The president praised the initiative of the Association of Bethlehem who have been inspired by the life and works of El Greco  to unite tradition and modernity and invited all the locals to visit, discover and enjoy another year with “Bethlehem in the Community of Madrid “and can be enjoyed by all locals and all visitors who these days come to our region for a few days rest, tourism or celebration. «The Holy Birth” is installed at the Royal post office and will be open until next January 6th, from 10.00 to 21.00 hours, except on the 24th and 31st of December , when it will be open from  10.00 to 18.00. The only day that it is closed to the public will be the 1st January.

Titled «The Holy Birth” evoking the style of El Greco «, the “Belentistas Madrilenos” have handmade nativity scenes both historical and artesanal  that occupies 150 square meters. It is a composition set in Toledo in the late sixteenth century and is composed of more than 500 figures of great artistic value belonging to historical reserves of the Association of Bethlehem and for which fifty volunteers of this organization have employed a year of work.
